Parts used are dried, and unexpanded flower buds. This traditionally increases circulation, promotes digestion and nutrition, raises the body temperature; stimulates the excretory organs, and stimulates and disinfects the kidneys, skin, liver and bronchial mucous membrane. It is the most powerful of the aromatic and carminative herbs.
The medicinal use are historically used for Ague, bad breath, bronchial catarrh, cold, colic, condiment, diarrhea, epilepsy, flatulence, griping, indigestion, low blood pressure, mucus colitis, nausea, neuralgia, palsy, poor circulation, phthisis, rheumatism, sour stomach, toothache (oil), twitching, and vomiting (pregnancy).
