Anthelmintic (taeniafuge, vermifuge), diuretic, nutritive. Pumpkin seed is historically an efficient agent for expelling both tape and round worms, with some herbalists advocating removal of the testa or outer husk and others contending that the whole should be taken. It appears that the active principle is in the acrid and resinous envelope immediately surrounding the embryo. The best form when using as an anthelmintic is to make an emulsion or simply take the crushed seeds, while the infusion of the crushed seeds is a diuretic.
